The Secret

I was watching a person give their testimony on u tube when he talked about a secret sin he had. It occurred to me that there are no secrets in life.
Hebrews 4:13 says “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
I wonder how many of us really believe that scripture. Somehow we feel that sometimes God is not looking or is preoccupied elsewhere. You can really notice it when people say a prayer. It’s exactly that, just saying a prayer. It’s not like they are even talking to God, just reciting a contrived set of words that are for the benefit of whoever happens to be listening.
I heard about a politician that was asked to say a prayer at a gathering. Someone that was obviously offended at the lack of political correctness of his prayer, stood up and complained that “it wasn’t an appropriate prayer. ” He replied “I wasn’t talking to you.”
My pastor once told me that your public prayer life is largely determined by your private prayer life. Basically what you do in secret is more important than what you do in public. I’ve meditated for a long time on that one. I must say that in the last couple of years it’s been much better. I’ve noticed however that when God requires of me to do something and I don’t do it, He removes His presence and hides Himself from me. The reverse happens when I repent.
Frequently meeting with God in the secret place is crucial to a healthy Christian life. This is our lifeline to the throne of God and without it our love for Jesus grows cold.
